(Слайд4)A smile is a facial expression formed by flexing the muscles near  both ends of the mouth. It could be: beguiling /intriguing/; cheerful/happy, disarming, fixed/forced, infectious, radiant/sunny, ready, sardonic, supercilious.

Among humans, it is an expression denoting pleasure, joy, happiness, or amusement, but can also be an involuntary expression of anxiety, in which case it is known as a grimace.

Smiling is something that is understood by everyone despite culture, race, or religion; it is internationally known.

(Слайд5)Cultural differences Cross-cultural studies have shown that smiling is a means of communicating emotions throughout the world. But there are large differences between different cultures.

-While most often, smiling is perceived as a positive emotion, there are many countries that perceive smiling as a negative expression and consider it unwelcoming. Too much smiling can be viewed as a sign of  dishonesty.

-The Japanese may smile when they are confused or angry. In other parts of Asia, people may smile when they are embarrassed.

-Some people may smile at others to indicate a friendly greeting. A smile may be reserved for close friends and family members.

-Many people in Russia consider smiling at strangers in public to be unusual and even suspicious behavior. Yet many Americans smile freely at strangers in public places. Some Russians believe that Americans smile in the wrong places; some Americans believe that Russians don't smile enough.

(Слайд6)Development of smiling in infants.

-Newborns often exhibit smiles within the first three days of their lives, especially while sleeping. These early smiles are referred to "reflex smiles." Between 6 and 8 weeks, most babies begin to exhibit "social smiles", meaning the baby will smile at his/her caregivers or in response to stimuli.

(Слайд9) 3. A smiley, smiley face, or happy face, :) or :Dis a stylized representation of a smiling humanoid face, commonly occurring in popular culture. It is commonly represented as a yellow (many other colors are also used) circle (or sphere) with two black dots representing eyes and a black arc representing the mouth. It was created in 1963 by Harvey Ball. Harvey Ball an American commercial artist, was employed by an advertising company to create a happy face to be used on buttons. His rendition, with bright yellow background, dark oval eyes, and creases at the sides of the mouth, was to become the most iconic version.

(Слайд10) POEM:

Smiling is infectious; you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today, I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner and someone saw my grin
When he smiled I realized I'd passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile then I realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin, don't leave it undetected
Let's start an epidemic quick, and get the world infected!

А вы сегодня улыбались?
